How to Relieve a Clogged Duct While Breastfeeding (& Prevent Mastitis!)

This post may contain affiliate links. View my Disclosures page for more information.

I am not a doctor, a nurse, a midwife, or a lactation consultant — but I’ve been breastfeeding for 30+ consecutive months so I’m becoming something of an expert in my own right. It hasn’t always been easy, and I’ve learned quite a bit along the journey. Among other things, I’ve got some experience in the area of removing and relieving clogs while breastfeeding or pumping. I’ve included links to the products I’ve used myself for your convenience. Nurse on!

I Mommed Hard Today and Failed

I mommed hard today and failed; my hormones and emotions got the better of me too many times to count. “From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.” (John‬ ‭1:16). Let me just say how thankful I am for God's grace today…and that His mercies are new every morning. Today was an opportunity to teach my toddler about forgiveness. She was patient with me even when I wasn't patient with her. She's growing up too fast and today it hit me hard that my baby is becoming a big girl before my eyes. Y'all–I am NOT READY. A moment of bedtime snuggles before she hopped into her big girl bed was more for me than for her, and I think she knew it. "Mommy, are you sad? Do you need another snuggle?" #dailyclaire #bestillmyheart #allthefeels #momlife #letthembelittle #postpartum #motherhood #bigsister #stopgrowing #justkiddinggrowupjustslowdownalittleok

Nora’s Birth Story – Our Birth Center Delivery

Every birth story is beautiful, and they’re all unique in their own way. My first childbirth experience was a very long hospital labor and delivery. My second was born via water birth at a midwife-run birth center; it was absolutely everything I’d hoped it could be! I hope you’ll enjoy reading this birth story for what it is: a beautiful way (one of many ways!) a baby comes into this world. I’m not here to shame medicated deliveries, hospital births, or C-sections — they just aren’t part of my story.

The pictures were taken by my talented friend, Teodora. You can find more of her work here.

My Miscarriage Gave Me Hope

If you know me, then you may already know my deep-seated and longtime desire to be a mother. I lost my first pregnancy to a miscarriage in March of 2014. I was almost 11 weeks along, and for the last 5 weeks we had several ultrasounds as we heard our baby’s heartbeat slow down and eventually stop. I knew knew the odds of having a miscarriage, yet still did not fully grasp the gravity of the situation even as it happened. I desperately wanted to be a mother, and put much of my identity and value into fulfilling that desire.

What’s the Mission?

Hi there, I’m Caitlin: mama bear, joy-seeker, daughter of the King, and wife! I’m from upstate NY, but now we live in NC. In addition to being a stay at home mom, I’m an avid DIY crafter, volunteer, disciple, and village-builder. My mission here is to bring you some encouragement along the journey of motherhood through my faith, foibles, and failures as I bumble and stumble along the path of life as a woman, wife, and mom of little kids.
